Reflection on Miss Wu’s Class in Dongkeng Central Primary S
Reflection on Miss Wu’s Class in Dongkeng Central Primary S
Today is Nov. 8th, 2011. It rained all day long. But I was delighted that our school English staffs were invited to observe two lessons about teaching phonics in Dongkeng Central Primary School. In fact, luckily four of our staffs had been there a few weeks ago, observing lessons about teaching phonics, of course. The classes were successful on that day, and so were today’s.
Here, I’d like to talk about the first class.
Miss Wu had the first lesson on “phonics lesson 3 e b g r m” in Grade 3. Her class was well-designed and well-organized. Here is the teaching procedure:
1. Warm-upA. Warm up the 26 letter names and the learnt letter sound
B. Warm up the learnt CVC words.
2. Presentation
A. Know about the letter sounds which the students will learn.
B. Teaching the letter sounds with chants, actions and sounds.
C. Try to blend two sounds.
D. Flash CV words and blend.
E. Try to blend the CVC words
3. Practice
A. Listen and follow
B. Try to read the sentence.
4. Extension
Try to blend the new words ( words about animals from Unit 4, Book 1, PEP)
5. Homework
I admire the way Miss Wu taught. Firstly, her voice was cheerful. Secondly, the assessments she gave to the students were always positive. “Good/ Very good/ Great/ Excellent” were often heard. I remembered that one student raised his hand and was called to answer a question. He was a bit nervous so that he blended the words badly. But the young pretty teacher went over with a smiling face and tapped his shoulder and said, “Good try”. She was a good organizer, too, in my opinion. Why? Judging by the way she had the student practise. The forms of practice in her class were changeable and effective, sometimes group by group, sometimes 4 by 4 or 2 by 2. The students were never boring, anyway. Finally, her intelligent teaching ability was quite impressive. After a chant was played, and the students didn’t seem to catch the letter “e” sound, she acknowledged that immediately and tried to tackle that problem.
Apparently, the teaching procedure was quite logical and practical, the teacher was outstanding and the students learnt smoothly, joyfully and fruitfully.
Above all, I’ve learnt a lot and I need to learn a lot.,Reflection on Miss Wu’s Class in Dongkeng Central Primary S
